All members who do not already have health insurance coverage are covered under a basic health insurance policy from the first day of service to the last. This is at no cost to the member. Dental and vision benefits are unfortunately not covered. The insurance is up to date with all requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
Intermountain AmeriCorps members serving 40 hours a week for 10.5 months receive a $1,500 living stipend per month, with certain standard deductions (social security, income tax, etc.).
Intermountain AmeriCorps members serving 20 hours a week for 10.5 months receive a $750 living stipend per month, with certain standard deductions (social security, income tax, etc.).
Half of this amount is paid on the 5th and again on the 20th of each month. The first stipend check will be issued three weeks after service begins.
Direct deposit is required of all members.
Training and Experience

Members are expected to serve a minimum of 20-40 hours a week (depending on the type of position) in order to reach the hours requirement for the education award. Members are allowed some limited personal time off during the year. Personal time must be approved in advance and you must be on track for reaching your hours goal.
Service continues during school holidays.
Federal holidays are days off for members (with the exception of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January, when members will be performing a service project).
Hours do not accrue during sick, personal, or federal holidays. For each day taken, plan on making up the eight hours missed. If you take off all of these days without serving additional hours, you may be in danger of not meeting the hours requirement.
Make A Difference Day and Martin Luther King Day are service project days that you are required to attend. These service projects can fall on a weekend or holiday (MLK Day).
Upon completing a term of service members earn an education award. For members serving 40 hours a week for 10.5 months, you'll need 1700 hours of service to earn a $6,095 Education Award. For members serving 20 hours a week for 10.5 months, you need 900 hours of service to earn a $3,047 education award.
You may use your education award to pay off current student loans, but they must be federally funded. Please check with your loan holders to see if you can use the education award on them.
If you are over the age of 55 at the start of your term of service, you may be able to gift your award to a child or grandchild.
Your award may also be used for future education at any educational institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
The award must be used within seven years of its receipt.
The award is taxable in the year in which it is used; however, it may be taxed less if used during a year in which you have a relatively low income.
Some schools will match the education award, either in part or even fully.
Washington State Basic Food Program
Intermountain AmeriCorps members monthly living allowance is not counted as income when determining eligibility for the Basic Food Program (food stamps), issued through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
Receiving support from family members you may be living with or owning assets in your name can affect your eligibility for the food program. Most members do qualify, especially those who live alone, with other members, or with dependents.
Members are eligible to put qualified loans into forbearance during their term of service. After your service term has started, you will fill out an online form for each of your loans to put them into forbearance. AmeriCorps will pay interest that accrues on qualified school loans during a member's term of service. The payment will be made after the member successfully completes the term of service.
