If you can respond positively to each of these questions, we believe you are ready to begin the application process!
Minimum Requirements:
- Are you at least eighteen years of age?
- Do you have a high school diploma or GED? Can you provide that documentation for us?
- Do you have proof of U.S. citizenship or are you a resident alien, and can you provide documentation?
- Are you absolutely sure that you can commit to an 10-1/2 or 12 month term of service and participate fully, five days each week at your service site, training sessions, and meetings?
Ability to meet challenges:
1. Some schools don't have equipment that is up-to-date or readily available to you, such as computers, phones, and email access. This can be a challenge in productivity and communication! Are you interested enough in working with kids in a rural environment to overcome these challenges?
2. If you are relocating, we do everything we can to help you find housing (we help you locate subsidized housing and have a current member from your new community to assist you). However, sometimes it is difficult to get settled for the first month or so. Would you be able to adjust to a new position, new school, and new friends and co-workers while your living arrangements might be temporary?
3. Because of the rural nature of our projects, sometimes housing is not available close to your site. Several members have a 30 minute commute to their site. Many commute together and a few sites are on bus lines. Will commuting be difficult for you? Keep in mind that snow covers the ground a few months in the winter (the roads are well maintained)!
Now that you've met the requirements and thought things through, you are ready to begin the application and interview process. Please contact us if you have any questions. We are looking forward to hearing from you! |
